EELC: Archbishop and Consistory

The Archbishop of the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church is Rev. Andres Põder. He was installed into office on 2 February 2005 in the Tallinn cathedral. Until his election Rev. Andres Põder was assistant moderator of the EELC governing board. Prior to that he served as dean of the Pärnu district and pastor of the Lutheran congregation there. Rev. Andres Põder was born on November 22, 1949, he is married and has three children.

The archbishop as the highest ranking pastor governs the whole EELC; the subordinate bishop carries out orders received from the archbishop; the dean (together with deputy dean) who are subordinate to the archbishop, governs the deanery; pastor who is subordinate to the dean and archbishop, govern the congregation or certain field of activity in the EELC. Curates, assistant pastors and deacons work under the supervision of the archbishop, dean or the pastor.

Consistory is the government of the EELC. The president of the consistory is the archbishop.The members of the consistory are the bishop, who carries out orders received from the archbishop, and five assessors. The General Synod elects the assessors for four years. Every assessor has a certain field of activity to lead.
