In Poland, the Christians of a Lutheran confession belong to the Evangelical-Augsburg Church, which is arranged into parishes and dioceses. The Church totals about 80,000 members, of which the majority lives in Silesia.
The spiritual leader is the Bishop. The Church Synod, whose term of office lasts 5 years, is the author of the entire Canon and all of the church orders. The Synod decides about all the important affairs of the Church, sets itself a target, and watches over the orthodoxy.
The Consistory, whose seat is in Warsaw, exercises the highest administrative power. The Evangelical-Augsburg Church is divided into dioceses in administrative and territorial respects. The diocese is represented by the Diocesan Synod with the Diocesan Bishop and the Diocesan Council. The diocesan bishop is the head of all pastors working in the diocese.
![]() | The basic administrative unit of the Church is the parish, which – as a local church - exhibits all characteristics of the Church of Jesus Christ. The people of God, which is gathered around the Gospel of Jesus Christ, represents the Church on a local level. It is appointed to bear witness to the faith. The spiritual leaders of the parishes are the pastors.
In its internal affairs, the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland is guided by the regulations of the church order, which was adopted by the church synod. The church order regulates the activity on the parish level, the diocesan level and in the entire Church. The relationship between the State and the Evangelical-Augsburg Church is regulated by the law, which was adopted by parliament on May 13th, 1994. |
